I rarely get upset nowadays, possibly a sign of old age. When Text-TV today reported that eight councils in Sweden purposely have withheld information on the spread of Corona in elderly care, I, however, got strong feelings. Perhaps one should give the councils the benefit of doubt until the matter is completely clear.

If the issue is strait forward and there is no government action, then our political system is clearly dysfunctional.  One could feel that it is a pity that news like this come when our attention is needed in many other areas.

Concerning rationing of food, I have started to look at the shelves in grocery stores. These are normally packed. I think that the shelves are an important part of the storing system. One can now see that they are not always full. If this trend continues, we will soon have a rationing.

The news report that authorities in the USA now has approved Remdesivir as an emergency medicine. This is good. The day we have a medicine, one could feel a lot calmer. The question then is: How long will it take to get really approved medicines? The way I have understood it, the matter is controversial and far from obvious. I googled a bit. Among other things, I found the quote below.

“In trying to eliminate bad drugs, the FDA prevents or delays many good drugs from reaching Americans. Sam Peltzman was one of the first economists to do the grisly math. His work shows that lives saved by FDA restrictions are few compared with the lives that would be saved by drugs that would be available if the FDA weren’t blocking the way.”

Today's statistics says 2,669 dead and 22,000 confirmed infected (sverigesradio.se, 14.03).

Det är sällan som jag blir upprörd nuförtiden, möjligen ett ålderstecken. När Text-TV idag rapporterade att åtta kommuner medvetet har undanhållit information om Corona-spridningen i äldrevården fick jag dock starka känslor. Man bör kanske ge de aktuella kommunerna ”the benefit of doubt” tills frågan är helt klarlagd.

Om saken är klar och det inte blir ett kraftfullt ”räfst- och rättarting” så har vi ett dysfunktionellt politiskt system. Man kan tycka att det är extra illa att sådana här nyheter kommer när nationens krafter behövs till mycket annat.

Rörande en möjlig livsmedelsransonering har jag börjat betrakta livsmedelsaffärernas hyllor. De brukar alltid vara packade. Jag gissar att butikshyllorna är en viktig del av lagersystemet. Man kan nu lägga märke till att det inte alltid är fullt. Om den här trenden kan extrapoleras har vi snart en ransonering.

En nyhet är att myndigheter i USA har godkänt Remdesivir som nödmedicin. Den dag det finns en medicin kan man andas lugnare. Frågan blir hur lång tid det skall ta att få fram godkända mediciner.
