The day started in a bad way. A "news-for-free" offer from Dagens Nyheter [Swedish daily] turned into an expense of SEK 119. Most likely, I was too careless in reading the deal, but I have promised myself to never again accept an offer that says "free". Maybe the cost could be handled, but the feeling is more difficult.

The Test Quagmire

The news-site Omin today reported that a million persons a day can be tested in Peking. (Staffan Dickson, Omni, Idag 15:56) It is obvious that Sweden has fallen behind here.

Swedish historian Olof von Dahlin did in the middle of the 18th century claim that the Chinese were the smartest people in the world. At least, they seem to have a greater ability to organize public work than we have.

Not hiring Chinese expertise for testing in Sweden seems to me like driving national prestige way too far.

Today, I could not mobilize the energy to book a test. The activity is postponed until tomorrow.

Dagen började dåligt. Det visade sig att ett gratiserbjudande från Dagens Nyheter övergick i en kostnad av 119:-. Jag läste väl slarvigt i villkoren, men jag har lovat mig själv att aldrig mer nappa på ett gratiserbjudande. Kostnaden kanske kan hanteras, men känslan är svårare. 

Testhärdsmältan

Omni rapporterar att man nu kan testa en miljon människor om dagen i Peking. (Staffan Dickson, Omni, Idag 15:56) Det är tydligt att Sverige har hamnat på efterkälken. 

Den svenske historikern Olof von Dahlin hävdade i mitten av 1700-talet att kineserna ”… hållas för det skarpsinnigaste folk i werlden.” De verkar i alla fall ha en större förmåga att organisera offentliga arbeten än vad vi har.

Att inte hyra in kinesisk expertis för testningen verkar vara att driva den nationella prestigen alldeles för långt. 

Har idag inte känt styrkan att försöka boka ett test. Aktiviteten är uppskjuten till imorgon.
