Forecasts
Late yesterday evening, I looked through the news on Omni. One link led to the article "The Authority for People's Health: 0.9 percent infected in week 17" (21 - 24 April). (sverigesradio.se, Publicerat 17.07).
I got quite surprised. May 3, I sat up the hypothesis that two percent of the Swedish population was infected. It now seems like my hypothesis was better than both Britton's and Tegnell's. I do, of course, have to make reservations for having misunderstood something.

I recall that a few days ago, a former State Epidemiologist said that she was tired of all forecasts around a question which we know very little about. I could not agree more, and think that there seems to be an over-belief in forecasts. Possibly, they are allowed to take too much space in the public consciousness, compared to for example the desirability of testing.

Elderly care
Yesterday, I hoped that discussion and action concerning elderly care will not end with two billion kronas for two years. I have then been thinking more about it. Money from the Government is of course good, but I think that this is not the long-term solution.
I think that the councils need to think about their priorities. Building new council headquarters and swimming pools might not be the most important. In the long run, the councils need to provide elderly care with an acceptable quality themselves.

Worth Thinking About
Yesterday, I got an e-mail from a British friend. It contained an article by Professor (oncology) Karol Sikora, working in England. The article held several things worth thinking about, among others:

”We need to classify everybody into three categories: the susceptible, the infected and the recovered.”

“It is inappropriate for politicians to hide bend the slogan ‘we will be led by science’ when it is so weak.”

“But decisions need to be made and society has to stick with them. We need more transparency.”

Corona is now not the constant top news. 

The editor of my local newspaper today replied that they will try to publish an article on where one could get a test, living where I do.

Today's statistics says 3,460 dead (+147) and 637 new cases reported (Text-TV). The latter gives a total of 27,909.

Prognoser

Sent igår kväll tittade jag igenom nyheterna på Omni. En länk ledde vidare till ”FHM: 0,9 procent var smittade vecka 17” (21–24 april). (sverigesradio.se, Publicerat 17.07). Jag blev klart förvånad. Den 3 maj satte jag upp hypotesen att två procent av svenska folket var smittat. Det verkar nu som om min hypotes var bättre än både Brittons och Tegnells. Jag måste naturligtvis reservera mig för att jag har missförstått något.

Drar mig till minnes att en tidigare statsepidemiolog hade uttalat att hon var trött på alla prognoser kring en fråga som vi vet ganska lite om. Jag kan bara hålla med, och anse att det allmänt verkar finnas en stark övertro på prognoser. Möjligen har de tillåtits att ta för mycket plats i det allmänna medvetandet, jämfört med till exempel önskvärdheten av testverksamhet.

Äldrevården

Igår hoppades jag att diskussion och åtgärder kring äldrevården inte tar slut med två miljarder på två år. Tänkte sedan lite mer på frågan. Pengar från staten är bra, men jag tror inte att det är där som den långsiktiga lösningen sitter. Jag tror att kommunerna behöver ta sig en rejäl funderare över sina prioriteringar. Nya kommunhus och badhus kanske inte är det viktigaste. På sikt måste kommunerna själva klara äldrevård med acceptabel kvalitet.

Tänkvärda tankar

Igår fick jag ett mail från en brittisk bekant. Det innehöll en artikel av professor (onkologi) Karol Sikora, verksam i England. Det innehöll flera tänkvärda tankar, bland andra:

Corona är nu definitivt inte den ständiga toppnyheten.

Redaktören för min lokala tidning svarade idag på morgonen att de skulle försöka komma med en artikel om hur man kunde få ett test där jag bor.
