The Odd Balls and the Open Society
Text-TV reports on Spotify having problems because of a pod, spreading dubbious information about the Corona. Demands for censorship are rising.
Then, how shall society handle the odd balls? The way I see it, it depends on what the assumption on the citizens are. If it is assumed that people are wise, and can take strange ideas for what they are, no censorship is needed.
If the assumption is that people will sway like grass in the media winds, then the hatchet needs to come out. In the latter case, society not only has one problem, it has two.
Self Examination
If there is room for odd opinions in a matter like the Corona, perhaps society needs to examine itself. Has people been informed in a good and reasonable way? A loud voice and many repetitions is not enough for convincing.
If governments of the world had put some of their sharper brains on a communications strategy, perhaps the problems would have been fewer, and smaller.

Text-TV rapporterar att Spotify är i blåsväder för att en poddare sprider märkliga påståenden om Coronan. Kraven på censur växer.
Hur skall då samhället förhålla sig till märkliga åsikter? Som jag ser det beror det på vad man tror om medborgarna. Om antagandet är att människor är kloka och kan ta underliga påståenden för vad de är så behövs ingen censur.
Om antagandet är att medborgarna driver som rön i vinden efter vilken pod som de lyssnade på senast så måste yxan fram. I det senare fallet har samhället inte bara ett problem, utan två.
Självransakan
Om det finns utrymme för märkliga åsikter kring något som Coronan kanske samhället måste fråga sig om verkligen har informerat människor på ett vettigt sätt.
För att övertyga räcker det inte med hög röst och upprepning.
Om världens regeringar hade satt några av sina skarpare hjärnor på en kommunikationsstrategi kanske problem hade varit färre, och mindre.
